There seems to be no lack of interest for conflicts involving colonial troops in official circles ever since the erection of the Memorial Gates back in 2002. The memory of the Great War, in its collective dimension, possibly adds justification to the diasporic Indian presence in the UK and the strong links that have bonded many generations of South Asians to their newly-adopted country Visram. Talk to any Punjabi immigrant in the UK today and it is highly likely that they will describe grandfathers and other relatives who fought for Britain.
